취미는 본래 개인의 관심과 즐거움을 기반으로 하는 활동이지만, 현대 사회의 취업 및 자기 계발 맥락에서는 개인의 역량과 경쟁력을 나타내는 하나의 수단으로 기능하기도 합니다. ‘BEOSEOT CLUB’은 현대 취미 문화 속에서 취미의 자율적 가치를 다시 한번 바라보기 위한 가상의 취미 연구소입니다. 연구소의 체계적인 형식과 동아리의 자율적이고 비목적적인 성격을 결합해, 결과나 성과보다 취미를 즐기는 과정 자체에 의미를 둡니다. 따라서 취미의 종류가 아닌, 개인이 취미를 즐기는 방식과 그 과정에서 반복적으로 나타나는 행동 특성에 주목합니다. 이러한 특성을 관찰하고 분류해 생물 종으로 시각화함으로써 ‘즐기기 위해 하는 일’이라는 취미의 의미를 환기하고자 합니다. 작은 관심이 반복적인 경험을 통해 각자의 취향으로 자라는 과정은 버섯의 성장 방식과 닮았습니다. 서로 다른 형태의 버섯은 개인의 취향과 개성을, 연결되는 균사는 취향이 이어지고 확장되는 관계를 상징합니다. ‘BEOSEOT CLUB’은 이러한 버섯의 특성을 바탕으로, 취미의 성장과 연결을 시각화하는 생물학적 언어를 구축합니다.

While hobbies are fundamentally rooted in personal interest and enjoyment, in the context of modern employment and self-development, they often function as a means to showcase individual competence and competitiveness. 'BEOSEOT CLUB' is a fictional hobby research institute that seeks to revisit the autonomous value of hobbies within contemporary hobby culture. By combining the systematic format of a research institute with the autonomous and non-purposeful nature of a club, it places meaning on the process of enjoying a hobby itself, rather than on outcomes or achievements. Therefore, rather than focusing on the kinds of hobbies people have, the institute pays attention to how individuals enjoy their hobbies and the behavioral traits that repeatedly emerge along the way. By observing and categorizing these traits and visualizing them as biological species, the project aims to recall the true meaning of a hobby as "something done purely for enjoyment." The process by which a small interest grows into one's own unique taste through repeated experiences resembles the growth pattern of mushrooms. Different shapes of mushrooms symbolize individual tastes and personalities, while connecting mycelium represents the relationships through which tastes are linked and expanded. Based on these characteristics of mushrooms, ‘BEOSEOT CLUB’ establishes a biological language that visualizes the growth and connection of hobbies.
