식물은 단순히 풍경을 이루는 배경이 아니라, 우리가 살아가는 환경을 구성하는 중요한 요소입니다. 공기와 토양을 유지하고, 다양한 생물에게 서식처와 먹이를 제공하며, 생태계의 물질 순환에 기여하는 등 식물은 수많은 관계 속에서 중요한 역할을 수행합니다. 그러나 식물이 생태계 안에서 어떤 기능을 하고, 다른 생물 및 인간과 어떻게 연결되어 있는지 구체적으로 살펴볼 기회는 많지 않습니다. ‘초록(草錄)’은 익숙함 속에 가려진 식물의 다양한 면모를 정보와 시각 자료로 풀어낸 인포그래픽 프로젝트입니다. 식물의 형태와 구조에서 출발해 생태적 기능과 인간을 포함한 주변 환경과의 관계를 살펴보고, 식물맹이라는 인지적 현상을 통해 우리가 식물을 인식하는 방식에 대해서도 알아봅니다. 각 주제는 개별적인 정보에 머무르지 않고 서로 연결되어 하나의 흐름을 이룹니다. 식물의 외형뿐만 아니라 그 안에 담긴 기능과 생태적 맥락을 시각적으로 전달함으로써, 식물을 둘러싼 관계를 구체적으로 이해할 수 있도록 구성했습니다. ‘초록(草錄)’은 식물에 관한 정보를 기록하고 연결하며, 우리가 미처 알지 못했던 식물의 다양한 면모를 발견하는 계기를 마련합니다.

Plants are essential to our environment, providing habitats and food for diverse organisms and supporting ecosystem processes. Yet, their ecological roles and connections with humans and other organisms often go unnoticed. “Chorok (草錄)” is an infographic project that explores the overlooked aspects of plants through information and visual materials. It examines plant structures, ecological functions, relationships with the surrounding environment, and plant blindness, a cognitive phenomenon that affects how we perceive plants. Each topic connects to form a continuous narrative. By presenting the functions and ecological contexts behind plants’ visible forms, the project aims to deepen understanding of their interconnected relationships. “Chorok (草錄)” records and connects information about plants, inviting viewers to discover aspects of plant life they may not have noticed before.
